Released in 2011, Cass McCombs fifth studio album, WIT’S END (all caps), opened with this slow burner of a song. As we say goodbye to this gracious northeastern fall season the golden tones on this lazy, soul-tinged recording feel right at home. Only this is a song about never feeling at home. McCombs vocal delivery here is modest yet pleasing, kind of like a drugged out version of a ’70′s-era Paul Simon covering Smokey Robinson. Check out the falsetto chorus. It’ll be singing in your head when you least expect it. But it will be comforting.
