Pan . Alley ............................... he term “Tin Pan Alley” was coined in 1903 to describe the area of New York City on Twenty-Eighth Street between Broadway and Sixth Avenue where a jumble of sounds could be heard from every window, while composers pounded on their pianos in search of a hit song. The goal of Tin Pan Alley musicians was to draft a popular song that could be sold nationally as sheet music. The composers attracted a national audience by celebrating current events and popular pastimes through song.
