Do you remember ever hearing anything about that or anything else strange? Trevino: One time we were on the balcony and the door to the kitchen (I still get goosebumps thinking about it) was open. My parents were in the back bedroom. I saw a body come close the door to the balcony and I thought it was my dad. I got up to Page 16 see what he was doing up so early in the morning as it was still dark, but there was nobody there. Right after it closed I had opened it... and there was nobody there. So I went real quick to dad's bedroom to see if he jumped in real quick, but my parents were asleep.
After the fort closed down in 1854 it stood vacant for a time. Then in 1858 the remains of the fort became a way station for the Southern Overland Mail line. At that time there were the ruins of forty or fifty buildings still in evidence. The powder magazine, which had been constructed of stone, had escaped the fires, and it had been taken over as the company store. The stables also were still usable. A small community built up around the way station, and by 1880 around 500 people lived in the area.
All these happenings are very common in the realm of the supernatural. When ghosts become a part of a household they are seldom harmful, except in extreme situations.
