Michigan has thirty-eight senators, who are elected to four-year terms. A senator can serve no more than two terms. The senate is responsible for approving appointments made by the governor. The Michigan house of representatives is composed of 110 representatives, who are elected to two-year terms. A representative may serve no more than three terms. The legislature is responsible for passing laws, levying taxes, and overseeing the work of the executive branch. JUDICIAL H H H H H H H H H Michigan’s judicial branch is responsible for interpreting laws and trying cases.

The strike began at the end of 1936 and lasted 44 days. The workers were victorious. In 1937, General Motors recognized the workers’ union, the United Auto Workers (UAW). This meant that General Motors would negotiate with the union about such matters as pay levels and working conditions.
