Having a look at Art Dudley’s latest on the Sophia Electric 91-01 300B based monobloc I’m a little taken aback by the photo he snapped of the interior of the amplifier … on the one hand, I’m happy to see a point-to-point wired amplifier, but on the other it appears to have been assembled hastily. It’s kind of a mess inside. And yet – they’re winding their own output transformer, so clearly they care enough to keep their mitts on arguably the single most important part in a classic tube amplifier. What’s the deal? For $5k, a nice 300B monobloc pair seems like a good deal, but it seems to me that they could have put it together a good-deal better than they did.
How’d it perform?
